SPOTLIGHT – Kompong Thom
Kompong Thom was once regarded as a stop off between Phnom Penh & Siem Reap but little do people know there are quite a few attractions that make this province well worth a visit.
Kompang Thoam is a place to experience rural Cambodian charm and explore hidden ancient temples. You can even take a scenic evening river cruise to unwind after a day of adventure.
Sambor Prei Kuk UNESCO world heritage site is one of the major Kompong Thom attractions, a complex of ancient temples that pre dates those at Angkor Wat, luckily for you we have created a listing all about Sambor Prei Kuk here.
Also there is the Phnom Santuk Pagoda. 809 steps high this temple on top of a mountain offers beautiful sunset views with troops of monkeys on the way up & down making this the stuff of real adventure. We have a listing devoted to this attraction linked here.
The Stung Sen River that runs through Kompong Thom is perfect for relaxing evening river cruises through the Cambodian countryside. You will be welcomed by farmers washing their buffalo and even river communities catching fish or taking a bath in the river at the end of the day. We organised through the Sambor Village resort which a beautiful and relaxing place to stay offering every service you could possibly need with very friendly and helpful staff.
The town itself isn’t much to look at but hey you’re not in Kompong Thom for that. You’re there to unwind, take life slowly and have a traditional and unique Cambodian adventure that so many other people miss out on.
We hope you enjoy this video we made when visiting Kompong Thom and hope even more that it will inspire you to do the same.
