Address:
Bokor Hill Station, Tuek Chhou, Kampot Province, Cambodia, Kampot
Description:

Anyone who spends any time in the peaceful riverside town of Kampot or surrounding countryside should make sure that they enjoy a day trip to Bokor Mountain and its National Park.

Getting to Bokor Mountain

You can always arrange to go by taxi, mini bus or even on an organised tour from many guest houses or hotels in Kampot but the best way to see it (for the more adventurous) is to hire your own motorbike and drive up there yourself. The drive alone up the more than one kilometre high winding road is breath-taking to say the least.

You will need to make sure you fill up your petrol tank at the petrol station at the entrance as fuel is drained fast getting up the mountain. If you do make it to the top, there are some small stalls selling fuel near the old casino.

Bokor Mountain Weather

Bokor Mountain is around 40 kilometres from Kampot and reaches an altitude of just over 1,000 metres, which means the climate is cooler than down on the coast.

History of Bokor Hill Station

It is this climate that encouraged the French to settle here. Bokor Hill Station was built in the 1920s and was something spectacular in its heyday with the old casino, church and Bokor Palace Hotel. In the 1970s it was deserted to the Khmer Rouge.

The road is now in great condition and there is so much to see with many of the former buildings still remaining. The waterfall is beautiful no matter what time of year you visit.

Unfortunately recent years have seen the development of the mountain with a huge casino that is not for everybody and satellite cities under construction.

If you are after a relatively cheap day out from Kampot with a thrilling ride, spectacular views, waterfalls and adventure among ruined structures then this is certainly the place for you.

Where is Bokor Mountain?

It is in Preah Monivong National Park (Bokor National Park) some 37 kilometres from Kampot.

Nearby Attractions

The closest attraction is the town of Kampot, where you can relax or buy some excellent Kampot pepper. Slightly further away is the coastal resort of Kep.
