Bokor Mountain – Before the Redevelopment

The most significant geographical feature near Kampot is Bokor mountain, a plateau over 1,000 metres high.

Back in the 1920’s colonial era, the French built a high end resort town on top of the mountain so that wealthy tourists and dignitaries could take advantage of the cooler temperatures. The mountain was abandoned in the 1940’s and left to ruins, the structures they built stood until around 2010 when new developers moved in to build a new casino resort.

Here is a gallery showing the ruins of the old French buildings, most of which have since been demolished or newly renovated beyond recognition.
